Justine Verdier, born in 1985, started playing the piano at the age of four and a half.
She began her studies at the Institut Musical de Paris under Professor Michel Denis (current
Headmaster of Scola Cantorum in Paris). She then continued studying with the Hungarian pianist
Gabriella Torma and with the pianist-composer Yves Henry in 1996. In 1999, Justine was successfully
admitted to the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris to study in the class of Professor Victoria Melki.

In June 1998, as Justine was interpreting Fantaisie in F Minor by Chopin during a concert at
the Polish Institute of Paris, she had the good fortune to count Polish pianist and composer
Milosz Magin among her audience. His insight allowed her to delve further into her knowledge and understanding of Chopin’s works. This enriching exchange was tragically cut short by the Professor’s death
in 1999.
Justine also shared master-classes with the pianists Jean-Marc Luisada, Dominique Merlet and
François-René Duchable. She occasionally received advice from the Polish pianist Janusz Olejniczak
when he was staying in France ( the pianist who played the role of Chopin in Andrzej Zulawski’s film ‘La note Bleue’).

Since 2004, Justine has been studying at the Mozarteum University of Salzburg under Professor Heinz Kämmerling.

In June 2005, she was chosen by Jean-Marc Luisada to take part in the project ‘The Super Piano Lesson’,
a master-class devoted to Chopin, organised and broadcasted by the Japanese Television NHK. (October/November 2005)

Taking to the stage for the first time at the age of five years old, Justine has since appeared
numerous times in public to play as a soloist, with four hands, chamber music and as part of
an orchestra. She has also taken part in many official Gala evenings (Red Cross, Rotary Club, Lion Club
and Zonta International).
In 1995, on the day of her 10th birthday, Justine gave her first concert recital during which she
interpreted Beethoven, Haydn and the Concerto K449 by Mozart accompanied by soloists of the
French National Orchestra. In 1996 and 1997, she twice gave a conference on Haydn, complete with
projections and recorded orchestral illustrations and examples that she interpreted herself with the piano.

In 1997, Justine was the first to perform a piano recital in the newly built ‘Atrium Musical Magne’ in Paris.
As award-winner of the Cziffra Foundation, she regularly plays in the ‘Chapelle Saint Frambourg –
The Franz Liszt Auditorium’ in Senlis near Paris as well as at the Chateau de Champs-sur-Marne and in the Hungarian Institutes of Paris and Vienna.
In 2002, Justine gave a recital in Lyon at the Embarcadere Auditorium and in 2004, she participated
in the 11th Cziffra Festival organised by the town of Unieux in the centre of France.

Since 1996, she has regularly been taking part in concerts organised in Cannes by the Cercle Musical
de Cannes
In April 1999, aged thirteen and a half years old, Justine performed works by Chopin in Corpus Christi (USA) following an invitation from ‘The Fryderyk Chopin Society of Texas’. In May of that year, she also
gave a recital of Chopin in the auditorium of Grenoble Museum and was invited to play Chopin in the
‘Pays de Charmes’ (Eastern France) during celebrations commemorating the 150th anniversary of the composer’s death taking place in the town where his father was born.
In 2000, Justine appeared at the Carnegie Weil Recital Hall of New York after having won a piano
competition prize in the United States earlier that year.
Justine regularly plays works by Chopin on a Pleyel piano manufactured in 1836 and even tooks part
in the restoration of this period instrument.

Towards the end of 2005, she teamed up with Pablo Galdo to duet in four hands in Germany, Salzburg and Oberösterreich as part of a symphony orchestra in the Benjamin Britten Cantata ‘St Nicolas’.

Awards and Diplomas
At the age of nine and a half, Justine was awarded the title of Prize Winner of the Cziffra Foundation,
an award for which she is still, to date, the youngest ever recipient.
What’s more, she has won twelve National and International competitions for young pianists.
In 2001, she obtained the ‘Diplôme Supérieur d’Enseignement’ and then in 2002, the ‘Diplôme Supérieur d’Exécution de piano’ awarded by the ‘Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris’. Justine is also an award winner
of the UFAM contest (in 1997), 1st Prize Winner of the Claude Kahn Contest and she was awarded the gold
medal (Higher degree level) in the last competition of the ‘Royaume de la Musique de Radio France’ in 1999.

Justine was also awarded 1st prize with honours from the ‘Sonatina and Sonata International Youth Piano Competition’ organised in May 2000 by the Fryderyk Chopin Society of Texas which earned her an
invitation to perform at the Carnegie Weill Recital Hall in New York in september 2000.

In 2003, Justine received 2nd Prize in the ‘Young concert Artist’ category of the Flame competition
which gave her the opportunity to play in the Moulin d’Andé auditorium in Normandy, as well as
2nd Prize in the ‘Concert Artist’ category of the International Milosz Magin Competition.
In 2005, Justine was chosen to participate in a series of chamber music concerts following the

In april 2007 she received in Vienna the third prize from the Hildegard Maschmann Fondation.
